Yoga is for you

If you had asked me 10 years ago where I would be at 27, I would have never guessed I would be where I am today.
It's a presidential election year. I always dreamed of working my way up the campaign ladder to hold a high-ranking position on a campaign in this very year. I'm not doing that. I never dreamed that my dream job would make me so miserable, alienating my friends and family to the point where I barely have friends. I climbed the ladder but I didn't end up where I wanted to be and really, I don't think I would want to be higher up than I was.
Long story short, I had to find a new path.
I never in a million years guessed I would be training to be a yoga teacher. I never imagined I would be so fat. I never imagined yoga would save me.
I found yoga this time around because of my campaign coworkers and a conveniently located office. They convinced me to check it out, so I did. I was hooked right away. I was knee deep in needing a change I had no idea I needed. Yoga saved me when I didn't know I needed saving.
Yoga has completely changed the way I see myself inside and out. It has reminded me that I am strong, beautiful, and capable. Being skinny isn’t going to make me a better person. It’s not going to make me happier. My self worth is not determined by the size of my jeans.
It’s easy to think that yoga isn’t for you. I’m here to tell you that it is. You don’t have to be flexible. You don’t have to wear special clothes. You don’t have to look a certain way. All you have to do is show up. Really, truly, that’s it. Ignore the beautiful Instagram pictures on beaches. Ignore the perfect bodies in tight clothing. Ignore the commentary in your mind.
It’s on the hard days, the ugly days, the fat days, that yoga works the most. Join me as I share my yoga journey with the world, and help others find themselves with yoga.
