On taking up the space you need

Take up space. Take up all the space you want, all the space you need. It’s okay.

Stretch. Grow.

Marianne Williamson tells us “your playing small doesn’t serve the world.” She’s right. Not only is it playing small, it’s also being small. Don’t shrink because someone tells you to.

This isn’t just about being fat, big, or tall, but if you are don’t let that stop you. Share your talents. Let your heart shine. Or don’t let your heart shine.

We only get one chance on this earth. Why would we spend all of our time here trying to shrink? Trying diets and juice cleanses to shrink our bodies. Hunching over, slumping our shoulders, standing in the back. Not speaking up. Not raising our hand when we have something to say. Not following our dreams or sharing our talents because someone told us not to.

I’ve had a dream and chased it. I got where I wanted to go. I met my goals and realized I didn’t want to continue on that path. Finding a new one is scary. The life I used to want is so incredibly different than the life I want now. I was teaching a class last night and read my favorite quote from Marianne Williamson and realized I needed to listen. If I want something I have to go get it, just like I did when I was chasing my first dream. I can’t stop because it’s difficult or scary. I have to keep going because it’s difficult and scary.

Here’s to taking up the space you need.
